To the Roots

Catch my radio show “To the Roots” on OzcatRadio.com, every thursday afternoon from 3-6pm.

It’s common for newspapers to use “Radical” to mean “crazy” or “extremist” but nothing could be further from the truth, to be “radical” literally means to go “to the roots” of an issue, to dig past the spin and hype and look at the situation as it really is.

This show is a musical journey across five continents to find the common threads, the common roots to our struggle for freedom in the face of all odds and despite the best efforts of the global ruling class to atomize us into separate and disconnected fragments incapable of working together.  Finding those common roots gives us all strength and puts the struggle into context.  As Utah Phillips used to say, the most powerful weapon of the working class is the Long Memory  – the knowledge of where we’ve been that can help us figure out where we’re going and how we’re going to get there.

I play an extremely eclectic mix of  hip hop, trip hop, downtempo, rock, reggae, and more; as well as folk music from all over the world  The common thread is that it’s all music born in and about struggles for social justice.  I am currently  seeking new material from independent musicians who make real music about real issues.  Instrumental fusion music that combines 2 or more of the listed genres will also be considered.    I’m currently routing  new music selection through Sonicbids. If you don’t have a sonicbids account you can contact me directly but please make sure you inclide links where I can download your music. If I can’t download it I can’t take it into the station and play it.

Big ups to OzcatRadio.com for providing a voice for the community and stepping outside the status quo to create something really valuable.  If you’re in Vallejo you can tune in at 89.5fm, otherwise the station has a live video & audio feed set up so you can listen from anywhere.  They also have an audio-only feed at Ozcatradio.com.
