Re: Your God is a Lie
Got this in my inbox today, it’s a reply to my recent video post on youtube
hello lynx
My name is Ajaz ———–, im an african indian living in India.I was raised by an ex communist (pops lost faith in it). Although he wasnt that religious he still enrolled me in a Madrasa (muslim sunday school). The thing i dont understand is wether there is a God. Coz i see dat lots of kids die daily nd fucks who believe in god, in therie religion, they all live a good life. most of em even dont practice wht they preach.Umm, i dont know how to out this….
<snip>
Back into the subject, i was raised in an unorthodox muslim family, but still made to belive that Allah (arabic for God) exists nd dat if one doesnt worship him one will go 2 hell. I dont do the 5 times a day namaz nor do i fast during ramadan. But 3 days ago i prayed, i prayed to god and asked for friends, coz although i been adding friends on facebook aint nobody had interest in talkin to me, nd i prayed just b4 login in, and guess wht there r some ppl who has messaged me. out of 34 ppl i added, 2 has replied to my messages! Now was that a coincidence or was it god?
And i am a big fan of immortal technique, the socialist MC, but dont understand why he is reppin islam. And i think thats y u both havent collaborated. B coz ur political and religious belief r opposite. And i would like to know more about anarchism and whether u belive it can be achieved. To be frank i dunno shit abt anarchism or socialism. If u can break it down for me then itd be helpful. post it as a blog, then maybe a lot of ppl can read and learn. U have proof that god doesnt exist? then please tell me.

Ajaz,
Religion exists to help people explain things they can’t explain otherwise, as far as I can see the more people learn about our world and the science behind the universe the less they need to resort to saying “god did it” in order to explain things. To me, that’s an indication that god doesn’t exist. If he did his fingerprints would be on everything and the progress of science would be constantly turning up new evidence for his existence. But if you look at the growth of science over the last several centures you’ll see just the opposite has happenned.
Everything we know about the universe points towards a naturalistic explanation of our origins – from evolution (which is a proven scientific fact, the “theory” of evolution is a theory about HOW it happens, not if it happens. Every serious biologist on the planet agrees on this point.) to Planet formation, weather patterns, climate change, and so on – all of these things are the results of natural explainable causes. Hurricanes (for instance) aren’t god’s wrath, as many religious people believe. They’re a seasonal weather pattern resulting from a specific combination of low preassure and warm water. Everywhere the light of science shines god dissapears.
Belief in Dieties is simply unneccessary, everything they could be used to explain can be better explained by science and the existance of a god would raise a whole new string of questions that religious people are unable to answer; starting with the question of who created God if God created everything.
Worse yet, by claiming to have the answers and supplying false ones, religions actually hamper the growth of human knowledge and prevent us from achieving our full potential as a species. Time spent memorizing the koran or torah or bible is time not spent learning useful information and time wasted pondering the will of a god that doesn’t exist is time that could have been better spent searching for truth in the natual world where we actually live. We have far too many problems to deal with as a species to waste our time dreaming about heaven. We’d be much better off spending our energy trying to make this world a bit less hellish.
Another issue with religion is the whole concept of Worship. What sort of a god would create people capable of independant thought and discovery, go to such immense trouble to hide his existence, and then demand that people accept his existence without evidence and devote their lives to worshipping him? What sort of a being would demand obedience and subservience from his creations, let alone threaten us with hell for refusing to believe without evidence? And why is it that so often the obedience that he demands just happenns to coincide with what rulers and priests need? If such a god actually does exist he is an egotistical monster who does not deserve any respect, let alone worship. But if we assume instead that god does not exist the answers to all these questions become obvious – Priests can provide no proof for the existence of god because there is none and God demands obedience because the priests and kings who invented him wanted power. He is a paper tiger designed by liars to frighten people into taking orders, nothing more or less.
I don’t believe in God because that belief would serve no purpose, because belief causes harm, because belief in God explains nothing that can’t be better explained without Him, because the existence of God would contradict everything we do know about how the universe works, and because as an Anarchist I refuse to allow myself to be manipulated by priests who seek to gain power through threats of damnation.
I don’t know why immortal technique defends Islam, you should ask him. I can’t speak for anyone but myself.
As far as Anarchism; Anarchism is nothing more or less then a State of Nature where communities govern themselves organically instead of having laws imposed by an elite minority through the threat or use of violence. Anarchism = self-management without bosses, elites, or politicians. And it can take any of a thousand different forms. Societies all over the world – including many pre-conquest African, Native American, and Celtic tribal societies – had political systems that could be accurately described as Anarchist for thousands of years. The capitalist hell that we’re living in now is the exception, not the rule when it comes to human history. And it’s a hell that I expect will be very short lived.
At this point I don’t honestly know if the global capitalist system can be replaced with an Anarchist one. I’m sorry to say I think it’s much more likely that capitalism will collapse around our ears when the fossile fuels run out and most of the 6 billion + people on the planet will starve to death or be killed by disease. As for what the survivors will do…. I don’t know, I’d like to think Anarchism would provide a good blueprint for them to rebuild civilization and avoid the recklessness and stupidity of our current system. That’s part of why I work so hard to get those ideas out – so that people will be familiar with them when the time comes to rebuild. I won’t say global anarchist revolution is impossible because theoretically almost anything is possible, but I can’t honestly say I believe it’s likely in the near future. Then again, 5 years before the collapse of the USSR nobody could have predicted it. So who knows. All I can do is keep working and fighting the best I know how.
solidarity,
lynx
