Trap Law’s

Posted on December 30, 2007

Saw a great blog post today over on ‘Objectify This!’ about the passage of a new TRAP law in Wisconsin; but when i went to leave a comment it wouldn’t let me because i wasn’t logged in… except that there’s no way to register or login on their site. gah! hate that.

anyway. So, since I went to all the trouble to write it out I figured i’d post it up here instead along with a link to the original article. so here it is:

Original Article: You Have the Right to Fewer Choices

If anti-choice legislators *really* wanted to stop women from being “coerced” into abortion they’d support social welfare programs that make it easier for low-income women to afford to be mothers, not place more restrictions on women’s ability to make their own decisions.

Lakota Declare independance from United States

Posted on December 27, 2007

I first saw this on myspace but wanted to double-check it before posting it here – and I found confirmation here.

The Lakota Nation has officially withdrawn from treaties that allowed the United States to annex their land and have declared themselves an independent nation. They are currently seeking international recognition and waiting for an official acknowledgement from the United States federal government.

And, the very best part, they’re completely within their legal rights to do so. I repeat, this is 100% legal and a failure on the part of the US to recognize their independence would constitute a severe breach of international law.

Changes

Posted on December 23, 2007

It’s been a few days since my last post, been busy with work, family drama, and music stuff. spent most of the day today working on stuff related to my band. One of the things that i did was add the new Beltaine’s Fire album to my online store so you can now either buy the download or a physical copy of the CD through this website. Good times.

I also removed the direct mp3 downloads of my solo music from this site and replaced them with a widget, powered by Jamendo, that’ll stream entire albums at once instead of just 1 track at a time. personally, i think it’s better that way. You can still download free mp3’s, as always, but from now on it’ll go through Jamendo’s servers instead of directly over mine. In a nutshell all that means is that i won’t have to pay money for extra bandwidth to give away my music. The only downside is that the widget requires the latest version of the Flash viewer plugin to run. it’s free, of course, but it takes a whopping 10 seconds to download and instal so doubtless I’ll get at least a few complaints about that. what can i say, life is tough.

I’m probably not going to take time to write another post before christmas, look for another post sometime late next week.

cheers,
lynx

chimp inteligence & anthropocentrism

[video http://s9.video.blip.tv/1330001701037/Knews-YouVsTheChimp632.wmv]

Yet another proof for evolution – creationists want to believe humans are special, created unique, perfect, in the image of God, but looking at this it’s pretty obvious that we share common ancestors with chimps and other apes. (i mean, as if it wasn’t already proven by the fact they share something like 98% of our dna….). we evolved more complex linguistic capabilities and the ability to use more complicated tools, they got superior memory skills. we have more processor speed, they have a better hard drive…. it’s a basic evolutionary trade off. we adapted in one direction to be more effective as hunter-gatherers on the plains, using language and weapons to hunt larger more difficult prey. they adapted to be more effective as hunter-gatherers in the deep forest. and, of course, they continue to evolve just as we do. we are not “more evolved” then them, just different.

live on the street corner

Posted on December 12, 2007

this is an older video, from 2004 I think. i found it as i was digging through the content from my old site and figured i should post it up here.

[youtube yt8fUyIRVAc]

the video was taken at the CAI open mic in SF that used to run on the street corner at 16th and mission. big thanks to Louis Yansen who hooked me up with this video, he took it for his documentary on the modern radical movement post-sept. 11th. The film is called “Stirring it Up: The New Dissenters” and you can find out more about it here.
