I’m a movie star, wooha.

not really, but I am in a movie. The film is called “Stirring it Up: The New Dissenters ” and is a documentary about the last days of the anti-globalization movement and the early anti-iraq-war movement.

I first met Louis, the filmmaker, in LA at the protests against the Democrats national convention in 2000 where they nominated Al “had his spine surgically removed” Gore as their candidate against George “ran on an isolationist campaign and then started 2 wars once in office” W. Bush. Fun times. In between the tear gas, pepper spray, and rubber bullets I did an interview for the film, and then did follow up interview with the filmmaker periodically over the next 3-4 years (I’m honestly a bit fuzzy on the dates at this point). Anyway, after tons of hard work the film is premeiring this week in Boston at a film fest and as I understand it Louis will be doing his best to get it shown in other festivals around the country.

Basically, the concept is he picked out five different activists from radically different points on the political spectrum who were all involved in political activism of some kind and followed them around for a few years to see what they were doing, how and if they sustained their activism, and how their thinking evolved over that time. The segments on me, of course, focus a lot on my music and performance and art as a means of propaganda and communication.

I tried to represent as well as I could for underground hip hop in general and for anarchism, but of course both of those things have very strongly contested meanings and its been a couple years at this point since the interviews so i can’t garauntee that everyone will like what I had to say. I also haven’t had a chance to see the film yet myself. I like loius though, he’s a good guy and a man of integrity so I trust that he hasn’t butchered anything I said, so if you’re in the boston area or know someone who is it’d be great if ya’ll could pass the info on this along to people and help support the film. It’s not often that media folks are willing to give a guy like me a chance to say his peice so anythign ya’ll can do to support the film is dope.

and hey – if/when you see it leave me a comment or send an email and let me know what you think!
